Friendship Restored
So. When your trapped (but not really trapped) in a random igloo? With A former friend? You have time to reflect.

We find out that his parents wanted to adopt Yuri after his parents deaths. But he refused. Unwilling to abandon his family home. The last thing he has of his parents.

Running away from others, it turns out, is easier when you justify your actions with nice sounding rationale. I’m This case? Yuri couldn’t accept the help of his friend’s family because he didn’t want to ask for help.

Which is great in theory. Until you explain to your friend that you didn’t shun him. You just shunned him because you didn’t want to ask for anyone’s help… So yeah. You shunned him.

As far as the friend was concerned? He saw the facade that Yuri wife in public everyday. And thought surely all is well with Yuri. Just by stating at his facade. But Yuri tells him that he was anything but ok.

It wasn’t until he hired Lilith (who might be his hidden step sister) that he finally began to recover from the dark place he exiled himself to after his parents died. She helped him become himself again. That’s good. And he didn’t become Japanese Batman.

So a friendship is restored. They find out as the storm clears (with kinda Are You Kidding Me Jesus Skylighting) that they were here feet from the ski resort. Maybe even within sight of the teachers.

Anyway Yuri admits he thought someone was following him. His friend assures him that wasn’t the case. Except we know Lilith was following him and is following him so ok.

Tomorrow it’s the aftermath of the ski trip. What happens then? Find out tomorrow. See you.

Everybody Needs Some Obon Sometime….
So this whole Chapter, presented in its about full state, is about the gang and the Obons (family) in their lives.

Except our forever unconscious teacher lady. She sleeps through her part, so I skipped her. Otherwise did you expect Makoto’s dojo family to act like they’re Japanese Yakuza? Me neither.

Other highlights is the strange oddness of pur first exposure to Otori’s mom. Pushover girl nearly being taken advantage of by s young male sibling. Najimi seemingly part of Tadano’s family…

Its a fun Chapter. Some unexpected moments. Mostly expected results. Still enjoyable all in all. Anyway Tadano is suffering from Shoko deficiency. So next Chapter its time for bicycle, bicycle, bicycle…

Queen sang about bicycles, Komi had bicycle on her list for the summer, so we bicycle race… Yomorrow. See you.

Never Ask Who The Mystery Lady Is…
Minami thinks that Iori is cheating on her with somebody named Ryoko. No. Not the one from Ten chi Muyo. And yes I’m old. It obsesses her. Right up until she confronts Iori that night.

Iori apologizes… Because apparently her first line of defense against Minami anger is apologizing. Her first offense against Minami silence is a submission leg hold. Or something violent.

Turns out Minami learns more than she wanted. Because Ryoko is Iori’s mom. Who suddenly stopped using her married name. Why? Don’t know. But this is more dysfunction than Minami was ready to be exposed to.

In retrospect? Iori cheating on her might have been easier to bear. And yes. I’m thinking we are going to see more of Ryoko come Volume 4. We shall see.

Anyway back to Heke and Shinohara. Where the latter has to help Heke overcome the disappointment of not getting… A Nintendo Switch Animal Crossing New Horizon Edition… Huh? Anyway it’s back to their love of gaming. Casual family friendly gaming.

By next week we wrap up Volume 3. Then I’ll check to see when it’s time to buy Volume 4. Stay tuned.

First Rule Of Katai Sleepover? Don’t Tell Katai!
So this is nice. We get to meet Katai Makoto’s parents… Who seem to be straight out of Japanese fighting games… I think. Why? Probably just me but it seems that way to me.

It’s like reading the Scott Pilgrim comic, and suddenly his parents are Johnny Cage and Catwoman from Injustice. Again it’s probably just me but ok.

The gang wants to get together. But how to do it as this summer is piping hot from Global Warming? (Prelude to the heat of the Pandemic?)…

Quick side note. I can’t think of ANY manga to date that actually allowed the Pandemic to happen in its pages. Anyone know of any manga that actually used the Pandemic as part of its drama? Post in the comments…

Since Najimi knows the gang well enough, she picks Katai’s family dojo as the sleepover site. Seeing how she already knows it’s built to stay cool in the hot summer months? It’s perfect… Now if she only actually told Makoto her plans.

Plan is to sleep over, and use the dojo’s projection player in the dojo to watch scary movies… Sigh. Every time they say scary movies it’s either Scream or Ringu. How about Evil Dead? Friday The 13th… The off beat but interesting Jason free TV Series?

(Yup. They wanted to do Ft13th but couldn’t get the Jason license. So rather interesting cursed artifacts hunt show. It’s less slasher horror and more suspense terror).

(Premise is simple. Some guy sold his soul to Satan and opened up an antique store for cursed artifacts. The main cast has decided, after said guy was dragged to hell, to get all the evil shit back and lock it all away. Lots of TV approved death and suffering. It was the tail end of the 20th Century. Simpler times. Watch.)

So let’s see… We meet Katai Ai. But since Shosuke is not here she can’t connect him to Shoko. Yet. Maybe one day. Also she rides around on a massive tricked out bike, and is still harassing Makoto.

We meet the dad. Who seems to be either using the force to speak, is a telepathy from the XVerse, or is another introvert like Shoko. Sorry. They don’t bond. But he does like Tadano alot!

Being an expert at interpreting the painfully introverted? He figures out the dad wants them to bow when entering the dojo. Otherwise all his dialogue is silent tnoughtd. Loud thoughts but silent. Also he looks like the old buff muscular guy from Virtua Fighter.

So tomorrow we meet the mom. And see what horror movies they watch… Bet it’s predictable stuff. It’s never stuff like Train To Busan, House (which is actually horror lite if I remember that movie, enjoyable fun), or The Gate (kid uses mini kit rocket with explosives to deny Satan his sister’s soul and shut the gate to hell… Weird.)

I’ve been buffing up my DC Universe series and movies lately. Since that is rebooting as the Elseworlds multiverse, and MARVEL can’t stop losing… Seemed like a nice gift for me this Christmas. Anyway more Komi tomorrow.

VIZ Komi Can’t Communicate Volume 13 Review Chapter One Hundred & Seventy-Seven (Part 2) (Digital)

The Short Goodbye.
So how does it end? After finding out that Rei’s mom is from the flash mob flashback way back when, she talks about missing Rei… We know she works hard for Rei, but Rei is only now realizing it.

They say their goodbyes. Shoko cries, and off the two go. In a touching moment, Rei assures her mom she knows how hard she works for her. She promised to make friends wherever they go.

That’s sweet. But I’m anxious to see how Season 3 handles the scene. Music, mood, acting, etc. Yet another reason I can’t wait for Season 3 to arrive.

Of course Netflix has to right their house after dumping x amount of series during the strikes (or because of the strikes). They could still sell Komi to another streamer.

Don’t think so? Zaslab just passed off a core fandom of WB content by trying to dump Looney Tunes on the auction block. So anything is possible. Also whoever buys Looney Tunes might also but the rights to The Lost Boys of the 80s.

No. That’s not a Peter Pan spinoff. That’s the vampire horror-ish franchise. I saw that movie! It was… Ok. Anyway the pair land in America, I’m thinking Hawaii! Her last page has Rei making friends with a Hawaii kid… Also School Buses? Lockers? Not having to take off your shoes before entering school? Unheard of!!

And that’s it for Rei. For now. If anyone knows if she returns in Year 3 (Season 5-6) let me know please. Anyway there’s a sudden deficiency of Komi in Tadano, and vice versa. Time to do something… But what? That’s this weekend! See you.

VIZ Komi Can’t Communicate Volume 13 Review Chapter One Hundred & Seventy-Seven (Part 1) (Digital)

The Final Chapter For Rei…
This is a pretty uniform end… Until Rei & her mom talk. Then everything Rei learned in her visit falls into play. And mother and daughter grow closer.

But when mom arrives Rei at first hesitantly hugs, then throws herself in fully for the hug. Showing her growth in one week.

So last time with Shoko, who she is now almost a twin to. Last time with Shosuke… Who she’s still nervous around. Last time with Shuko. No more Eternal 17 references.

So how do they know the mom? Unfortunately it may remain a secret to the Anime viewers… Unless they start showing flashbacks on the parents.

Why? Remember when Masayoshi gathered a flash mob to ask Shuko on a date? The mom was one of the ladies in the flash mob! An event you saw in the manga… But might be omitted from the Anime. Hope not.

Tomorrow the faithful moment when the two talk after a week apart. Next up though? A new segment I’ll run during Case Closed Reviews…

The Bath Isn’t Nearly As Important As Tomorrow’s Review!
So this will be a quick word from me. Because this may be entitled a bath with Rei, but it’s the sleep before Rei leaves that is important.

Why? Because second night out Komi wanted to bond with Tri by having a furry plushie sleepover with her. This is the satisfying conclusion to that first time…

After this bath part. Anyway even Rei goes into !!! Mode when confronted by Shoko bare skin. And boobs. And… Moving on. Anyway it’s a bath. Dan service? Maybe… Hope not.

But to make sure it’s fan service, Shuko jumps in because… Japanese baths are large enough to accommodate naked one young lady, one high school lady, and one forever 17 lady… Oh you think she’s bad now? Never make her a Deity Goddess! She will become 17 for Infinity.

Next time one last meeting of the plush furs as we get towards the end of Rei’s time in Season 3. I’ll extend it into Monday, and we end it to bounce back to Shinohara & Heke when we learn Rei’s happy ending… For now.

Anyway we are close to the end of Rei’s Season 3 appearance. Stay tuned eh? See you… Now onto New Years for Komi. Aka Everybody Hates Najimi.

VIZ Komi Can’t Communicate Volume 12 Review Chapter One Hundred & Sixty-Nine (Digital)

The Personalities That Live Rent Free In Shoko’s Head Through The Power Of… IMAGINATION!

So Komi wants to get to know Rei better. But it’s Day 2 of her week long stay (as the mother prepares to move herself and Rei to get next work assignment in America), and Komi is struggling to communicate with her.

Even the father senses Komi’s distress, but he can’t help her. But maybe her friends… In her mind through the power of Imagination can help her.

And so utilizing all her friends help, Komi enacts her plan to get to know For better by throwing a Stuffed Fur Party in her room. Playing with dolls recommended by I(magination) Tadano. Party recommended by I-Najimi.

If she had her way, I-Najimi would have self invited herself to the party. With a bit of help from I-Onemine she breaks the ice in speaking to Rei. Which is great as she comes beating plush furs. Mainly her plush cats.

Cats she has brought to have a party with Rei. Sit around, have fun, talk, get to know each other, pin her down and kick he… DAMMIT SHOKO! NO I-YAMAI HELP!! BAD!! BAD!! QUICK!! SUMMON I-JEFF PROBST TO VOTE HER OFF THE BRAIN!!

Ahem. Anyway this starts the process of getting to know her. But this won’t cut it. Remember, Rei is withdrawn because her mother’s frequent re-assignments keeps losing her all the friends she makes, so she’s become hardened against ever making true friends.

This will be attended to and dealt with, but not until Volume 13. For now we are just building up to the big reveal of all her pains. So slowly but surely Shoko chips away at her barriers… But she still has a long way to go.

So Chapter One Hundred & Seventy tomorrow. Stay tuned.

VIZ Komi Can’t Communicate Volume 12 Review Chapter One Hundred And Sixty-Eight (Digital)

Rei, The Girl With A Cat’s Eyes… And Distrust.
For the rest of Volume 12, and the first part of Volume 13, the focus is on young Rei. She too has problems with friends. Only unlike Shoko her problems are not her own, but because of her mother.

Her mother bounces from job location to job location. Her job keeping her continuously moving. Maybe it wasn’t the best thing for her to have a daughter while living in such unstable circumstances. Especially since life is what her job makes of it.

So for the coming Chapters Komi Shoko finds herself drawn into Rei’s solitary life, seeing her past self reflected in Rei’s present. During the coming Chapters she will try to crack Rei’s barriers. With help from her friends.

This Chapter we just meet Rei, get a hint to Rei’s isolation and issues with her mother… But her full story will take awhile to unfold. And only after Shoko has torn down Rei’s defenses. With help.

So we meet Rei. And as we roll along we will know more about her. But we will see it till out as we move forward. Stay tuned. Anyway disc #2 of Wednesday starts up review wise tonight.

The Authentic DVD is here. It just needs to be brought in. Once it is we will compare the two, a challenge since this time the Authentic and Bootleg are darn near carbon copies. What to look for in the Authentic, and how to tell if apart from the Bootleg. Coming soon.

VIZ Komi Can’t Communicate Volume 12 Showcase Chapter One Hundred & Sixty-Six (Digital)

Shuko & Masayoshi At The Beach
So this will be a straight up shoecase. Since the Anime to date have skipped over all shorts regarding High School Shuko & Masayoshi to date.

Who knows. Maybe they will compile them all into a future OAV/OVA? We shall see. Anyway this is short so let’s just go over the talking points.

Masayoshi seems to be Japanese James Dean.
Masayoshi is Master Of Sand Castle Building.
Neither can look at the other for too long, for they are both just too darn cute for captions.

And that’s that. Anyway tomorrow we will showcase the time Komi Shoko checked off Radio Exercises from her To Do List. Guest starting the foursome who fought with Komi in the snowball fight from Season 2.

The radio compels you to EXERCISE! Great! Usually when the radio compels you to do things, it’s mostly involving you having to kill people! See you!
