Aniplex/Funimation My Dress Up Darling Season 1 Episode 11 Review

The Review Is Pressing X For Doubt Hard On Your Explanations Of Why Love Hotels Are Not So Bad, Episode!

You know what? I am not even going to look. I am darn sure the manga does not… let’s look… yeah. Even the manga writes it off saying Female Cosplayers like to have girls nights in Love Hotels that do not involve reinacting How Do We Relationship… still pressing X for doubt though.

So let’s see… here are some of the things changed that I can confirm. First off? In the manga the scene where Wakana lays down the rules on future cosplays, and too much teasing him with her nudity, leads directly into the manga cafe scene. HOWEVER, in the Anime it jumps ahead to a different day for that… why?

So in the Anime Marin takes time to jump up and down on the bed like it’s a trampoline… don’t! You’ll damage the love bed. So that leaves us with how do they handle the whole Wakana discovering porn on the TV and the loud neighbors later?

That’s easy… first off I have to note I think the Marin voice actress does the read over of the manga as Liz the Succubus, and Wakana is the guy. And Marin also voices the TV porn actress and the neighboring woman. So… how was it done?

Easy. She just did the expected noises and they played with the sound audio. Nothing too graphic, just silly speak that is softly heard but not overtly done. Also they never show you the TV that Wakana is watching, it’s all from the TV’s pov looking at him. So that’s how they got away with that one… nice.

Anyway let’s see. Marin and Wakana go to a manga cafe, which takes place aain on the same day as the Wakana laying down the rules scene but a day or so later in the Anime. There he finds out about a new manga that Marin likes… but yeah. She wanted to but she originally wasn’t oging to ask.

Why? Because she didn’t feel that she could pull off pigtails like Sajuna. So yeah… when I said earlier that it was Wakana who made the order for the shoot, in the manga reviews, I think I can now say I was right. He does request it because he wants to see her in pigtails!

So after the cafe they go and he picks up the first two volumes of the manga to study… we then cut right to the love hotel. So yeah. There is no set up, no costume making or anything. We just jump from concept to finished costume and the day of the shoot.

The love hotel is fine… for an over the top extreme love hotel look at How Do We Relationship. This is fine. Also Also it looks like they added a karaoke machine on the bed nightstand. That I guess is to push the whole idea of female cosplayers going there for a ladies night without any weirdness…

WHY! Why would they crash a… oh right. The cheap few hours of rental for a room… got it… nope. Still don’t get it. Its cheaper if one of the ladies just hosted the party at their place, or they went to a park and held it inan open pavillion on park grounds… sigh. But I’m me so never mind.

So there is a little thing with scenes being a little out of order. That’s fine, I’m kinda used to the Anime taking liberties here and there with how they adapted the manga… but for the season finale they really mess up the order of the final few chapters of Volume 5. But more on that tomorrow. No it won’t ruin your experience knowing this, but I’m reviewing it so it’s my nitpick.

Hmm… I like how Marin teases Wakana before they finish the set up, and hands him a condom… which I think he uses to help with the makeup because right after that he’s applying her makeup and she dons the finished wig. Again, all this set up is only seen now and not gone through, especially since…

We do have Wakana chide himself in front of Marin about not being 100% to the vision of the character from the manga, thinking Marin will be disappointed. She’s not. She now tells him what I guess has not come up yet in any conversations… that cosplayers are not die hard perfectionists, and they indulge in creative license on their costumes often.

Yeah. I guess it’s gone over Wakana’s head until now, but the reason why die hards like Saluna liked his work so is because he is a die hard perfectionist. That seems to be a rarity in the cosplay community, but Marin should have told him sooner that it’s ok to express his creativity in the costumes.

So how do we go over the end where Wakana encourages Marin to climb up on top of him for the final few shots? Well… like I said, they had the female VA actress (probably of Marin) do the voice of the woman next door… and kinda played it low. So its not really that adult. Also Wakana gets carried away, grabs Marin, things go flying and it auto turns off the lights from the bed’s controls and makes the bed vibrate… which is not really seen in the manga.

Marin excuses herself, and freaks out in the bathroom before changing back to her normal clothes to leave. Wakana saves all his freaking out for home… and that’s it. Now I gone through the final episode already, and I am pretty sure they do like the manga and it’s not brought up again, what happened, in the final Season 1 episode.

Maybe it will be brought up again at a future date if they find themselves in that situation again but… we shall see. Speaking of things we won’t see in the Season Finale tomorrow? Guess what? If you were expecting to see Marin’s dad in this episode?… Prepare for disappointment. You won’t. I’ll explain my thoughts as to why tomorrow. SPOILER. It’s short and maybe obvious.

Tomorrow is the finale, and it kinda jumps about the three scenes of the end of the volume. Helping Marin do her homework and her performing self drowning at the school pool, the festival (with strange unnecessary foreshadowing), and the movie experience at Marin’s. I’ll note the good, the bad, and the missing from all this when we look at the end of Season 1… tomorrow.
