Image’ Battlepug 2019 #5 Review

The Review…

So… I won’t even bother trying to dissect the issue. This is how it ends and it ends… sigh… like this.

So the elf woman has fled through the portal between worlds, and suddenly out of the portal comes a giant beast that seems to be part mech, as one of its legs seems to be a giant mech leg.

The family gathers together, and the lady who I assume is the barbarian’s new second wife uses her powers to make him one with the force or something. Why? So he can summon a giant unicorn seal from under the ice to fight the monster.

The monster loses, and the battlepug returns… but the portal sucks the lady who I think is the barbarian’s second wife through it making her vanish… much like the unsatisfying end of Fist Of The North Star where a tornado made the main star’s wife fly away to OZ at the end of the movie.

So now that the barbarian and the battlepug are reunited, they both ride into the portal to get her back… the portal closes leaving the rest of the family (and the Not Mane Five) to podner the fate of the three, as the battlepug and barbarian are seen at the end of the comic falling through dimensions… their fate uncertain…

Why? Because that is the end of the stupid comic. The comic ends with an entirely open ended ending that I suppose we are supposed to wait for a second sequel to this comic… if that ever happens.

Yeah. Like we are supposed to wait for more issues of Adventureman, or A Man Among Ye, or Big Girls or… never mind.

The Verdict…

You know what? I kinda did like this comic… except that it dragged all the way to the end with the tease about the barbarian… losing his family. Well he did not lose his family… just the lady who is probably his second wife.

So now he has to travel the omniverse with his battlepug to save her… except that there is no guarantee that Image will publish the second part of this story so… yeah… that sucks.

But to be fair to this comic I will give it at least a 4 out of 5. While it did not have the best of endings, and really I guess anyone can write a fan fic where the ending is finally thought out and how anything appens from here. Heck there could be a story where the barbarian and the pug end up on Equestria and team up with the Mane Six to save the lady but… dunno. That is a story for another time I suppose.

If that story ever happens I will be sure to read it. Stay tuned.

Next Time…

So with that story done… hmm… well it’s time to dig into some other title, depending on where you are reading this it could mean anything, since different sites having this review means different results for the coming up part but… well.. .stay tuned.

I am just hoping the next time I review  has a better ending than the ending this comic had. Just saying… coming up.

The Review…

Note. Completely forgot to review the last story. Sigh. Its a few pages I’m sure you can check it out yourself.

So we have this one off furry comic from the essential founders of the AmeriManga movement in America. Antarctic Press’ OG creators Ben Dunn and Fred Perry. So let’s see, this is a brief anthology and it only costs a dollar to buy digitally so it is easy to have…

So in the first story there is an overabundance of mega highways, where people are tolled to use the highway system that is so overblown the politicians of Hawaii look at it and say” That’s a bit too much.”

The highway system is run by a hot female furry with zero personality. Of course. Also apparently this femme furry is so evil she actually uses missiles to take out commuters on the highway because… something. She blows up a lot of cards, but don’t worry about the one car we saw the mom and son in. They’re fine… a lot of other corpses but they’re fine.

Anyway this is a Robin Hood of Fur story so here comes Robin Hood, in a sports car, fighting the Mayor of cars in his giant car transport truck and his slinky busty sheriff… oh-kay…. pass. Next?

So from Ben Dunn and what I guess is his son? Anyway in Pony we have a Dr.Wolf.. so here in this comic we have a Dr. Cat. Who treats animals of the anthro variety regardless of size, demeanor, or dietary preferences. No carnivore will be denied medical care… cute. Also we have a female butterfly anthro lady meet the doctor at the start of the comic. Cute.

Let’s see… the big bad wolf is under the weather, and does not have the lung capacity to terrorize or eat domesticated pigs no more… uhh… isn’t that a good thing? Oh wait the Doctor is a cat, he might like a good bit of dead pig patient now and then…
The doc is next visited by a giant regular old Basic Bee… uhh… run? Then the most shocking thing of all arrives to see the doctor… A HUMAN!! AGGHH!!!

No seriously why are they not afraid of the furless human that suddenly appeared?!? RUN AWAY FURS!! RUN!!
Also the Doctor is called FurGood… like the song Dr Feel Good… ugh… also I can easily see Dr. Wolf being the voice of Dr. FurGood in this comic, if it was ever animated.. FYI if anyone over at Antarctic ever makes a short of this.

So what does the human want? Well she… has come to report an accident. Where another human, a male, has an injured arm… oh no. Is this Jack & Jill? Huh? Oh. Well you see,, Jack & Jill went up a hill, because they were too cheap to invest in indoor plumbing. Jack fell down and maimed himself, and Jill went to fetch the feline doctor… something like that.

The comic ends with us finding out that the doc lives in a fairy tale land. Where the butterfly lady is a replacement for Tinker Bell, strange off brand Shrek lives in this land, somebody mutilated Not Pinocchio’s limbs, Jesus Lion from Narnia has another thorn in his paw, Snow White bought her co-dependent dwarves in for a check up… Cinderella is here… ack. Mondays.

The third story is about a so called Princess who parties too hard, is selfish and a bit of a ditz. So much so not even the furry in her dreams wants anything to do with her. Sigh. The end. And that is the comic. Verdict?

The Verdict…

A bit of a sadness that this is the one and only comic… if only for the Dr. FurGood story which deserves it’s own mini series in the same vein as the Doctor McCoy mini from IDW some years ago. Otherwise past the I’m sure Dr. Wolf would be the best voice for the Doctor cat story? This comic is… ok. It is just ok. Didn’t care too much for the Fred Perry story, but the one by the Dunns Duo was great. So for me this was a… 3 out of 5.

Well I liked… half of the stories Just half. So it got a middle of the road score. Because half. And yes if Ben Dunn ever went back to do more for Dr. Furgood?  I would be proud to buy and review it.

You know what? Since I am here it is time to note a disturbing thing I noticed. Mainly that a certain creator (of such stories like Courageous Princess) seems to have left Antarctic, and is now publisign with a different publisher. That was… finding that out was a bit disconcerting for me. Why did he leave? I don’t know but… I guess it means I have to buy the new copies of his work with the new publisher before I can review it… and I do like Courageous Princess but I have not yet read the full series yet so… to be continued? Anyway…

Next Time…

So this was a one off, and I am still waiting on things like Patriotika #2 or I need to go get Kamen America which is out but I haven’t bought it yet so… well… that is to come so stay tuned. As for what I review next from Antarctic? Well… that is coming up. Meanwhile I will just pull a random review out and it will be next.

Antarctic’ Black Hops Book One GI USA 2018 Review Part 2

The Review…

So the back-up story of what I am sure was a flip book comic? The continuation of the mission the bun of war was sent on. Travel into North Korea to destroy a facility preparing to launch a nuclear missile capable of reaching Hawaii.

So as the mostly American looking officers struggle to restrain the forward movement of one lone Basic Bunny, he moves ever forward wiping out troops as he goes… because greatest Basic Furry according to this comic.

I do like how the bunny finds a tree filled with deadly snakes… somehow… and figures out an easy trap to get the drop on the soldiers… by striking a deal with the snakes in the tree to attack the soldiers they fall upon. Oh-kay…

Suddenly the rabbit remembers he has burrowing abilities and decides to infiltrate the North Korean missile base via tunneling… well using an already existing tunnel to reach the inside of the base undetected. Nice.

Somehow the bunny runs into a igh ranking non North Korean looking man to help him get into the North Korean facility. Somehow… weird. Anyway inside the base we finally get to the upgraded genetic fight. In Volume 2 we had Otter fighting an otter, and the otter that was evil was part snake. Well that is the theme again, only this time its part snake and part… basic cat.

Somehow the leader of this base, the North Korean, thinks he is Blowfeld from James Bond as he has his own cat… one that is part serpent, and which he sends to kill the American bunny. The fight does not go well for the serpent cat. Though once again the end isn’t because the rabbit put it to an end. The rabbit set explosives to blow up the missile, and that kills the snake cat.

The comic ends with the North Korean base going boom, the villains going boom, and the rabbit escaping Batman escaping from Hong Kong in The Dark Knight way. Via a balloon lift and a passing plane to tow him to safety, a transport plane from the UN no less.

Ugh though. A cameo appearance by the worst governor ever David Ige. WHY COMIC WHY!!!

The comic ends with the redhead lady we saw as buns keeper in Book Two appearing for the first time, as his keeper during his off time awaiting his next call to duty. In 2020. We have a two page mini comic with her and bun… and that is that. The end.

The Verdict…

Overall it is an ok comic, but I really was not blown away by it. Still it is something quite different and unique, and given that all in all I am going to give this a 4 out of 5. Maybe it is not for everyone, but if you are looking for something that is a bit of fur, a bit different, and something you don’t normally see everyday? Give this little slice of unique fur a shot. You might like it. And given how cheap it is to get digitally? $0.99 times two? Try it.

Mind you I am looking for cute curvy anthro fur ladies to read about, but I for one wouldn’t mind getting another shot with Black Hops in the year ahead of 2021 or 2022… it seems that this comc comes out every two years so we might not see BookThree until 2022 so… stay tuned. Meanwhile…

Next Time…

So we need something new in the category of Fur to build up content for the other AMINOs I am doing reviews of fur for so… let’s see… well its not Fur, but it is war so… from Derek Chua and Irrational Comics it’s War Bunnies. Make War Not Love… or Bun. It is a one shot, it will be an easy one off review… so that is next. Coming up…
