Look Mario, No Pedaling!
So let’s see. Suddenly, because plot, they have a bike made for a tall Luigi and a short Mario. They’re also towing the bathtub cart we saw used a few times already.
This whole episode is set up for a BMX bike race… Well just a bike race. It’s arguable how BMX this all this. Also these must all be Electric Bikes… Years before they were invented… Because I don’t remember seeing any pedaling animations.
While traveling through the desert regions again, the foursome are assaulted by a random Fry Guy minion of Wart Jr (now King Koopa aka Bowser). Why? Because Toad owes him gold coins.
Why? Dunno. Everyone just automatically accepts that Toad owes this random Fry Guy gold. Even Toad, for some odd reason. Also because plot the gang is out of gold.
Fry Guy tells them to enter a local bike race to win the gold. Which turns out to be against… Triclyde, Mouser, and a random minion. What? Not enough Sub Bosses?!?
Suddenly Peach and Toad realize that Bowser is behind the race… As if the appearance of Mouser and Triclyde wasn’t proof enough of that. They try to warn Mario/Luigi but fail.
They end up being captured and tied up by one of the snake enemies from SMB2. You know. The one they cloned three times and merged together to form the Triclyde sub boss. Nice?
The whole plot of the race is to have the trio of villains kill Mario & Luigi. It’s got a few interesting cliffhanger moments and the chase is nice. But your wondering if they did the Kart antics here.
Ehhh… Kinda? I mean we have Mouser hurl Bob-ombs at the brothers, and that’s kinda a Mario Kart thing? And one time a rock is thrown which turns into a hazard that deflates their tires. So…
I can’t say this episode inspired Mario Kart. But it kinda maybe put you in a positive mood to buy Super Mario Kart SNES in 1992. Maybe. It’s possible.
Anyway the brothers eventually knock the three sub bosses out of the race. Peach & Toad escape Bowser, and steal a bike suitable for Peach to go warn the boys.
Anyway since they beat the trio of sub bosses, and the gigs up, Bowser gets in his bike to escape. Chased out of the episode by a pissed off foursome. Leaving the Mario Luigi bike behind.
Well that was a one time only gimmick that we might not see again. Mario and Luigi on a bike. Definitely this episode is before the only dual riding Mario Kart game on the GameCube. So… There’s that.
Tomorrow? Two Plumbers and a Baby. Not directed by Leonard Nimoy, not featuring a scene that might have the dead ghost of a young boy in the episode. A Mario, A Luigi, and a baby…
Considering they are riding into the Kingdom of Youth? And the Three Men movies is about caring for a young girl? I suspect this means we are getting Baby Peach. Maybe. Stay tuned.
